Suede or Velvet?
So what’s the difference between a suede surface fabric and velvet? Printed suede is the same type of fabric you find on casino tables, it’s harder wearing and cleans up easier, should you have a spill on it. Printing also comes out ‘crisper’ on suede so any lines are sharper. Dark colours also come out much better on suede because unlike regular velvet that is dyed to colour it, with printed fabric it starts out white and the image and background colours are onto printed on it. So with the velvet having longer fibres than the suede, you sometimes see a hint of the white base through the printed colours. Not so much with lighter colours though and the velvet is still a very nice surface. So if you have a darker background and have an image with a lot of sharp lines on it and you want a harder wearing fabric, we’d recommend the suede, if you have a lighter image with less sharp lines, such as a photo and you want a nice feel to the fabric and are not too worried about how hard wearing it is, we’d recommend the velvet.

PropDog Ltd originally had a partnership with JM Authentics, to help Jordan produce some of his pads. But we’ve now gone our separate ways, purchasing a licensing agreement from Jordan to produce many of JM Authentic’s original range. A few years on and with new processes and technologies, PropDog are now the leading manufacturer of close up pads/mats in the world! Our stylish designs are expertly assembled onsite at the PropDog Workshop in Pembrokeshire, Wales.
Hard Back Pads consists of a front and back board, the back board usually being made from leather, with the front being made from either suede or velvet. The backing boards are precisely laser cut to ensure exact dimensions, perfectly rounded corners and a perfect, snug fit of the two surfaces. The edges of the pads are gently rounded to ensure a comfortable edge to lean on and maximum durability. With a non rounded edge, wear and tear can occur over time with repeated pressure on a sharp 90 degree edge. We use the finest wadding available to give a smooth, even and comfortable surface to work on, with just the right level of firmness to for card play. For the coin workers out there who want a little extra wadding for a softer pad, no problem! We can make the pads as soft or had as you want, just ask.
Roll Up pads consist of a top fabric, either a velvet or suede and a tough rubber base. These layers are expertly bonded using an industrial heat press machine to ensure an even bond and finish throughout the pad.
We can make your pad in any shape, size or design that you want, in either hard back or roll up.
For the surface, you can have any colour, design, photo, logo or artwork that you want, printed on either velvet or suede.
We can also make half pads for you, with just a surface layer, to fit say a poker table or frame that you already have.
To get a custom pad made to suit your requirements, either email us at info@propdog.co.uk to discuss your requirements. Please include any logos or images you want us to use. They can be in any format, but just make them as high resolution as you can.
Once we know your requirements, we can give you an accurate quote for your pad.
